Reflections about Mytage
Success or Failure:
In some ways, I think the project was both a success and failure. I think the images that capture the mood and sense of reality are the ones in which I am becoming various historical/community figures. The only examples of this effect can be found in the animation portion of my mytage when I am occupying the personage of both Jesus and Peter Demens. Interchangeably, It could be that they are occupying me, which goes back to Lacan's notion of the gaze. In the future, when I revisit this project, I want to insert myself more directly into the Catcher In the Rye narratives. I didn't here because in my mystory, I use animation to set off each narration for this particular section of my blog; whereas, the other narratives are introduced by an abstract somewhat realistic image to capture mood. I also thought it would be interested to juxtapose real shot images to animation, to create an uncanny and somewhat discomforting effect--why choose to embrace the imaginative to tell a story of my past experiences. Similar to film, my mytage draws on the notion of fetish and creates a sense of fetishism.
In addition to the content within each panel, having each panel stand-out with the use of a boarder signifies that each is a fragment, much like the micro narratives in my mystory which are trying to develop into a cohesive narrative, like a fragmented memory. This reminds me much of the nature of the unconscious.
